This is my shortcut example to designing an ISIS database:

1. Field Definition Table (FDT)

TagName Type
100TitleAlphanumeric ab
200 ImprintAlphanumericabc

2. Worksheet

Record validation. Next

3. Display Format

MFN(3), ‘-‘, mdl, v1, v2+| (|v6|) |, v7,/||v8/ “Keywords:”, v9 (10,10)/##

4. Field Select Table (FST)

Click on title, personal authors and keywords

Title: 4 by word > > Add
Author: o by line >> Add
Keywords: 2 by <term> >>Add

Colours Table:

0 = black            1 = dark red                2 = green
3 = olive             4 = blue                      5 = purple
6 = cyan              7 = grey, etc.

You specify these using cl and number, e.g. cl1, v10 will display field 10 on the screen in red.

Bold, Italic and underline:

You can make the display more easier to read by printing certain fields in bold, italic or underlined characters. This is done with the symbols b, i, and ul respectively. You can limit the extent of application of these features using braces (curly brackets), e.g. {b, v10} /v20/ {i, v30 “-_, v31}. This signifies that field 10 is to printed in bold, field 20 in normal type, and field 30 and 31 (and the dash) in italic type.
